The thrill of the IWWF World Water Ski Racing Championships is set to hit the Central Coast from November 9 to 19, and this year, budding photographers have the opportunity to get in on the action. In collaboration with Bendigo Bank Branches Central Coast a community photo competition has been launched, offering a total prize pool of $900.

The competition will run throughout the World Water Ski Racing Championships, allowing spectators to capture the adrenaline-pumping moments.

The prizes for the competition are as follows: first place will receive $500, second place $300, and third place $100.

The Championships will bring together the world’s leading water ski racers, spanning ages from 13 and up, who will be competing on a challenging 5-kilometer course at speeds reaching up to 180 kilometers per hour.

Stewart Smith, the event spokesman, emphasized the importance of community engagement, saying, “By running a photo competition, it gives us a way for the community to have a broader interest in the racing – and you never know, it may spark a new career for a few of our entrants.”

Michael Bell from Bendigo Bank, Community Bank, Central Coast branches, highlighted the bank’s commitment to community and expressed excitement about being involved in an event with such a strong community focus. “Water ski racing is a family pursuit with a strong community focus which I’m sure the Central Coast will embrace – particularly bringing people from all over the world to the city for nearly three weeks,” Michael said.

The economic impact of the Championships is expected to be around $5 million for the Central Coast region. The event spans nearly three weeks, with only four days of on-water action, giving international visitors the opportunity to explore the Central Coast and its surrounding areas.

For those looking to spectate, entry to the Gosford foreshore spectator areas is free of charge, and limited corporate lunch tickets are available at Drifters Wharf, located right on the start-finish line.

The IWWF World Water Ski Racing Championships return for the first time since 2019 when it was held in France. Racers from Australia, New Zealand, North America, and Europe will participate, making this one of the most eagerly anticipated World Championships in recent times.

The Opening Ceremonies will be held on November 10 at the Terrigal Boardwalk, and throughout the event, spectators can enjoy round presentations at Drifters Wharf Tavern, with the World Champions being crowned in a special ceremony on November 19. Media and interview opportunities with key participants will also be available during the event.
