As we get ready for Hit 101.3’s breakfast team of Maz and Matty returning to Hit 101.3, we had the opportunity to sit down with the guys before the Christmas /New Year break.
Maz and Matty have known each other a long time – and the on-air (and off-air) chemistry shows what a great pair these two make for radio (and as mates!).
So Matty, what was the best thing that happened to you in 2022?
2022 has been a big year professionally, from MC’ing for the Wallabies & the Waratahs, the T20 World Cup, Davis Cup and my mighty Manly Sea Eagles but definitely reuniting with Maz and hosting breakfast on HIT 101.3 has to be the best thing to happen to me in 2022! (Aww!)
Maz, how about you?
Maz – I’ll be honest, it’s been a tough year, my Dad passed away as well as one of my closest friends, so processing some big feelings has been very much a big part of this year, and ensuring that I am present with the grief has been a journey. In saying that, there have been some wonderful moments too and I have to say giving away 10K to Jessie for playing Alphabucks felt magical. Knowing that we changed someone’s life through our radio show is such a great thing to be able to do.
Matty – Agree, 20 years ago Maz and I dreamed of doing a show together and to have it come to life is truly so special. We have a great little team, our producer the “Shy Guy”, Millie on the phones along with Maz, it is a joy to wake up at 3:30am to sit in a box and make radio with them and have fun while changing people’s lives.
What are you looking forward to in 2023?
Maz – Yeah I have to say, working with Matty is the absolute best, and I am looking forward to creating a fun and engaging breakfast show every morning for our listeners. On a personal note, I am looking forward to my book being published and continuing to create excellent conversations about sobriety on my podcast Last Drinks. (You can listen HERE)
Matty – I’m really enjoying watching my kids grow and develop into mini humans, my daughter Billie will be going into year 3, my son Ziggy starts big school this year so watching him thrive will be just the best and my youngest Stevie, she is a force – they are what I am looking forward to in 2023.
Resolutions YAY or NAY?
Matty – I’m not really a resolutions guy, but I am 40 in 2023 so I will do all the boring things like try and eat healthier and keep exercising – I also want to learn how to surf properly.
Maz – Nay – I’m not into resolutions so much either, but at some point I will go through a clean eating phase and I’ll try to do more yoga.
What are you guys predicting for 2023? (Get ready for the lols)
Matty – That 90’s fashion will be huge in 2023, low cut jeans will be making a comeback in a big way, coloured lens glasses and Von Dutch hats, Rihanna will have another baby and Manly will win the NRL Premiership!! (Laughs!)
Maz – Agree!! The 90s are back in fashion, which is great except for low-cut jeans, I despise low-cut jeans. (Don’t we all?!) I’d say there will be a few trends, Raman Burgers, more country music and rapper collaborations and Face Yoga will take off. I’m also hoping for a comeback from 98 Degrees that would be ideal. (Grins!)
