Palliative Care Public Forum a Resounding Success

Palliative Care Public Forum a Resounding Success

On a bright Sunday afternoon, the Elsie’s Retreat Project team, in collaboration with the Lions Club of Wyoming-East Gosford Club, orchestrated a highly successful public forum on palliative care at Mingara. Member for Terrigal, Adam Crouch MP, took the opportunity to extend his heartfelt congratulations to the dedicated team, emphasising the event’s significance in showcasing the community’s ongoing interest in palliative care.

Adam Crouch expressed his gratitude to the Elsie’s Retreat Project team for their unwavering commitment and support, which has resulted in the establishment of not one but two dedicated palliative care units on the Central Coast. The success of the public forum underscored the community’s recognition of the importance of palliative care services and highlighted the critical need for continued funding for the Gosford Palliative Care Unit and the upcoming Wyong Palliative Care Unit.

Joined by the Shadow Minister for Health, Matt Kean MP, Adam Crouch reinforced the Coalition’s steadfast commitment to palliative care services, both on the Central Coast and across New South Wales. Crouch took pride in the former Coalition government’s proactive measures, which included a substantial $743 million funding boost for palliative care. This funding not only supported existing units but also facilitated the establishment of the first palliative care unit at Gosford and contributed to the construction of a unit at Wyong.

Coalition vs. Minns Labor Government In a sobering comparison, Adam Crouch lamented the Minns Labor Government’s different stance on palliative care funding. While the former Coalition government demonstrated a clear understanding of the importance of palliative care, allocating significant resources to the cause, the Minns Labor Government made the regrettable decision to cut palliative care funding by $150 million.

Adam Crouch concluded his remarks by stating that the Coalition would persist in urging the Minns Labor Government to provide the necessary funding for the two palliative care units on the Central Coast. He emphasised the crucial need for recurrent funding to ensure the seamless operation of these units and support the dedicated staff who provide essential care to patients and their families.

The success of the palliative care public forum not only highlighted the community’s engagement in healthcare matters but also served as a testament to the tireless efforts of the Elsie’s Retreat Project team and the Lions Club of Wyoming-East Gosford Club. Adam Crouch’s commendation and commitment to advocating for continued funding reinforce the Coalition’s dedication to ensuring quality palliative care services for the residents of the Central Coast.
